Plan from the plate.
Coordinate crops with seasonal meals, storage needs and realistic growing conditions. Use local producers where the site cannot yet provide what the kitchen needs.
Food that helps people feel cared for, connected to the season and more confident about nourishing themselves.

Our food vision begins in the soil and continues through the kitchen. Vegetables and herbs grown with care, seasonal ingredients, satisfying meals and people who understand where the food came from.
Menus would draw from vegetables, fruit, whole grains and varied protein sources, with water readily available and space to enjoy eating. Food should be generous, flavourful and responsive to the person at the table.
We want to support nourishment and everyday wellbeing. We would not use meals to promise detoxification, correct body pH, cure illness or replace clinical nutrition care.

Bring culinary skill to the harvest. Offer varied meals and discuss allergies and dietary needs in advance, with clear information about what can be accommodated.
Growing, cooking and preservation workshops could help people use the same principles in a small garden, a home kitchen or a wider homestead.
A founding household may tend a garden in the morning and never meet the guest who eats that harvest later. They may build a bench where someone finally sits quietly, mend a path, grow a bouquet, or make something useful for the market.
Those contributions matter in their own right. Care is present in the conditions people create for one another.
Potential kitchen purchasing and market sales would have their own quality, food-safety, pricing and commercial terms. A founding position does not guarantee that the retreat buys a household’s products.
The Great Canadian Garden Bible is being developed to follow food from planning and planting through harvest, storage and the kitchen. It is Book 1 of The Great Canadian Homestead Series, alongside developed Livestock and Off-Grid manuscripts. Useful knowledge should be able to travel.
Food is one part of a thoughtful, guest-led experience.
